We’ve chronicled in the past how patience and persistence in recruiting can pay off.  And not just what could be considered a “normal” amount, either.  We’re talking about extraordinary levels of patience and persistence . . . like the levels involved in this story of Top Echelon Network split placement success.

The story, of course, involves two Preferred Member recruiters: Tom Heeney, CPC of Corporate Resources, LLC and Lloyd Shoemaker of Miami Professional Search, LLC.  All you really need to tell you about the split placement that Heeney and Shoemaker made is contained in the information listed below:

Job search: began one year and nine months ago in January of 2011
Job title: began as a Senior Design Engineer
Job title accepted: Lead Technical Support Engineer
Initial salary range: $50K-$60K + bonus, no relocation
Number of candidates interviewed: 34
Offer accepted: $84,500

'Comments' and Compliments ExtraEVERYTHING about this job order changed from the time that Heeney received it, from the job title to the initial salary range.  Not only that, but a total of 34 candidates were interviewed for the position.

However, because of the tenacity of the recruiters involved, they rode the ebb and flow of recruiting, hiring, and placement process, and now they’ve reaped the benefits of their seemingly endless patience and persistence.  The kicker is that this is the FIRST split placements that Heeney and Shoemaker have made together in Top Echelon Network . . . and what a memorable one it is.

If you’d like to thank another recruiter for their efforts in a split placement situation, send your information to marketing@topechelon.com.  Your comments might be included in an upcoming issue of The Pinnacle Newsletter Blog!

Lloyd Shoemaker“I give Tom all the credit in the world for sticking with this placement. Twenty-one months is a long time, and 99% of us would have given up, but not Tom.  All I did was place the candidate in the Network, as I do all of my candidates, and if I remember correctly, Tom found him there.  I just love persistence!  Yea, Tom!”

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and what’s goes well with turkey, gravy, and pumpkin pie?

Stuffing?  Yes, I suppose stuffing does.  And green beans, too?  Yes, you got me there.

Recent PlacementsSplit placements!  The answer is split placements!  Because split placements taste at least as good as those other things, and there’s nothing better than making a split right before the holiday.

(And not only that, half a pie is better than no pie at all, although on most days, half a pie is better than half a loaf of bread.  But I digress . . .)

So while we’re in the giving mood, let’s give thanks for our family, our friends, and our Trading Partners.  Trading job orders and candidates with just one Trading Partner can produce plenty of split placements—and a relationship like that is something for which you should be thankful throughout the whole year.

Pass the rolls, please.

THIS WEEK’S COMPLETED SPLIT PLACEMENTS!

(Editor’s Note: This is the next in a series of guest blog posts about contract staffing, courtesy of Top Echelon Contracting, the recruiter’s back-office solution.  Similar posts will appear in future issues of The Pinnacle Newsletter Blog.)

Debbie FledderjohannHow important is workplace flexibility to working adults? It’s important enough that 45% would sacrifice a portion of their salary to get it, according to a Staffing Industry Analysts article citing a Moms Corps survey.

They are also willing to give up increasingly large percentages of their salaries to get that flexibility. This year, they said they would be willing to take an 8.6% pay cut. Last year they said they would only be willing to slash their pay by 5.8%.

In addition, the survey found that:

  • 67% believe they can “have it all” when it comes to work-life balance.
  • 53% said they could get more done if they could occasionally work from home.
  • 60% said that the economy has no impact on their desire for workplace flexibility.

This growing need for workplace flexibility is one of the major reasons more workers are choosing to become contractors. Contract staffing can help workers gain flexibility by allowing them to:

  1. Work hours that are convenient for them.  Contract assignments are often project based, so companies may allow flexible daily or weekly work schedules, as long as the work gets done on a timely basis.
  2. Not be tied to an office.  If a candidate has what they need at home, they can often work between their home and office. Smartphones, the Internet, and other technological advances are making this more and more feasible
  3. Take control of their free time.  New employees typically only get one week of vacation, two tops. Even if they are willing to take the time unpaid, they often are not allowed. With contracting, if they want to take an extended vacation or take the summer off to be with their children, they simply don’t take an assignment during that time. Many contractors choose to take assignments in other states to take advantage of the opportunity to travel. They actually look at this as a vacation of sorts in which they can explore new areas, cultures, etc.

Do your candidates need or want more flexibility in their work? If so, you way want to suggest contract staffing as an option. By providing a way for them to achieve work-life balance, you can make yourself the recruiter of choice for top candidates in your niche.

First, she was profiled in our “Split Placement Spotlight.”  Now, Cindy Andrew Cordell, CPC of Corporate Resources, LLC is part of our “Comments and Compliments” feature.

Why is that?  Because she took the time to compliment the Trading Partners in her two most recent split placements.

'Comments' and ComplimentsAnd as an added bonus, these were the first split fee recruiting placements that Cordell has made with these particular partners.  In fact, one of recruiters involved has only been a Preferred Member recruiter since March of 2011.

The main theme running through these compliments: “easy to work with.”  If that describes you, then you have an excellent chance to make split placements in Top Echelon Network—just like the recruiters included in this week’s installment of “‘Comments’ and Compliments.”

If you’d like to thank another recruiter for their efforts in a split placement situation, send your information to marketing@topechelon.com.  Your comments might be included in an upcoming issue of The Pinnacle Newsletter Blog.

Drea Codispoti, CPC/CERSAs we’ve already established, it seems as though the Thanksgiving holiday has snuck up on us this year.

That would mean that the December Virtual Core Group (VCG) teleconference call meeting schedule has snuck up on us, too!

(Not really. NOTHING sneaks up on me . . . but you get the idea.)  And like last month, there’s a change to the schedule of which you should be aware.

Because of our annual Christmas party, the Top Echelon offices will be closed on the afternoon of Thursday, December 13.  That also means there will be no VCG teleconference call meetings that day.  And THAT means I’m pushing a set of meetings up by one day, to Wednesday, December 12.

Virtual Core Group meetings are regularly scheduled conference calls for Preferred Member recruiters who work in the same industry or niche.

During these calls, recruiters share information about the activity they’re seeing, they share hot job orders and candidates, and they also bounce ideas off one another.  These are the activities that lead most directly to making split placements.

Below is the Virtual Core Group teleconference call schedule for the month of December (all times listed are Eastern Standard Time).
