Maria Hemminger's Chocolates

Ask and ye shall receive.  Top Echelon Network Preferred Member recruiters Maria Hemminger and Joanna Spaun of MJ Recruiters, LLC commented that Trading Partner Trey Cameron of the Cameron Craig Group owed her chocolate due to the fact that their firm has placed so many of his candidates.

As you can see by the photo above, Cameron came through!  And he left no doubt as to how much he appreciates Hemminger and Spaun’s efforts, specifically the fact that the two firms have now made five split placements in the Network, three so far this year.

If you’ve thanked a Trading Partner in a unique way (or have been the one being thanked), we want to know about it.  Send your information—and accompanying photo, if possible—to marketing@TopEchelon.com.

Matt Deutsch
Well, maybe “mania” is a bit strong of a word to use.  Maybe.

But as Mark Demaree announced earlier, the site and the dates for the 2013 National Convention have been set.  Not only that, Drea Codispoti announced the site and dates for the 2012 Fall Conference earlier this month.

Sure, there are plenty of details to release, loose ends to tie up, etc., etc.  However, I’d like to focus on an important aspect of these two upcoming events:

The official hashtags for each.

As you may remember (or perhaps you don’t), the official hashtag for the 2012 National Convention was #TENAT12.

Many recruiters used that hashtag while tweeting at the National Convention in Nashville.  Consequently, we now have hashtags for the 2012 Fall Conference and 2013 National Convention.  Because fair is fair.

As you might imagine, the hashtag for this year’s Fall Conference is as follows:

#TEFALL12

That would mean the hashtag for the next year’s National Convention is this:

#TENAT13

As I’ve mentioned previously, all you have to do is include this hashtag with every one of your tweets regarding the Fall Conference and/or National Convention.  Here’s an example:

So far, this is the best Top Echelon Network event I have attended . . . this year . . . in Chicago. #TEFALL12

You don’t have to physically be at either of these events to tweet about them, either.  You can use the hashtag even if you’re just tweeting your thoughts from the comfort of your own home . . . in your pajamas . . . while you watch an episode of Glee.

The power is in your hands.

It’s a documented fact that blog readers don’t like blog posts that are too long, which makes them scroll down the page a lot in order to read the whole post.

But when it comes to split placements, we’re willing to bet that you won’t mind as much.

Recent PlacementsAfter all, there are few things more interesting in knowing which top recruiters are making placements, what industries they’re making placements in, and what kind of positions they’re filling.

That’s exactly what we have this week—a long blog post filled with recent split placements made by Preferred Member recruiters in the Network, and we’re more than happy to publish them.

That’s right . . . bring on the split placements!

In fact, we hope this is just the beginning.  We hope that we’ll be publishing TWICE as many split placements as this in the near future.

Actually, we hope you all get carpal tunnel syndrome because of all the scrolling you’ll be doing while looking at the split placements each week.  (Well, maybe not.  But then again . . .)

THIS WEEK’S COMPLETED SPLIT PLACEMENTS!

Once you make a split placement with another Preferred Member recruiter in Top Echelon Network, you never know when you’ll make your next one with them.

It could be the following week . . . or the following month . . . or the following year.

Or it could be years later, like two of the recruiters in this week’s installment of “‘Comments’ and Compliments.”

'Comments' and ComplimentsThe bottom line is this: once you make a split placement with another Preferred Member recruiter, you’ve built a foundation for working together that lasts a long time.

No matter how much time passes or how many placements you make in the meantime, you can always strike gold with that recruiter again.

That’s why the investment that many recruiters have made in Top Echelon’s recruiting network (and in their Trading Partners) continues to pay dividends, sometimes in ways that they don’t expect—but that they always enjoy.

If you’d like to thank another recruiter for their efforts in a split placement situation, send your information to marketing@topechelon.com.  Your comments might be included in an upcoming issue of The Pinnacle Newsletter Blog!

Mark DemareeTop Echelon Network celebrated its 24th anniversary last month.  What does that mean?

That we’re currently in our 25th year of existence!

Well, it means more than that, too.  It also means that we’ll be celebrating our 25th anniversary next year!

Top Echelon Network was founded by Mike Kappel in 1988.  As a result, we plan to celebrate 25 years of helping recruiters make placements (and split placements) throughout the rest of this year—and next year, too!

The first step: announcing that we’re going back to the TradeWinds Hotel in St. Petersburg, Fla., for the 2013 National Convention.

The TradeWinds was the site of our very first convention, which was held in 1990.  (It took a couple of years for the Network to grow to the point where holding a convention was necessary.)

There are many other details that we’ll be releasing in the weeks and months ahead, so be on the lookout for those.  In the meantime, make plans RIGHT NOW to join us for the 2013 National Convention.

You have the dates . . . you have the location . . . and it’s our 25th anniversary.

We don’t hope to see you there.  We expect to.

Lessons happen in the world of recruiting all the time.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a new recruiter or a grizzled veteran.  Not two placements are exactly the same, and each one presents its own set of unique challenges and obstacles.

'Comments' and Compliments ExtraMany times, it can be downright discouraging.  In fact, it can make you want to quit working the job order altogether.  However, when you’re in a split placement situation with another Top Echelon Network Preferred Member recruiter, a discouraging situation can turn into a split placement fee.

That was the case for Preferred Member recruiter Ed Keil, CPC of Reliance Recruiting, LLC, who recently made a split placement with Bill Broderick of MPI Resources.  Keil was very complimentary of Broderick and the composure he displayed throughout the entire placement process, and he wanted to praise Broderick for his efforts.

The lesson that was learned as a result of this split placement was, “Stand there until something positive happens.  Despite everything that was thrown at them, that’s exactly what Keil and Broderick did . . . and something positive did happen—they placed a candidate!

Keil’s comments regarding the split placement are below, followed by Broderick’s.  If you’d like to compliment a Trading Partner in a more extensive manner regarding a split placement, email your comments and information to marketing@TopEchelon.com.

Ed Keil, CPC“I wanted to take a moment to recognize Bill’s efforts on this placements.  Bill really stuck with me facing delays, lack of feedback, and a generally tough recruiting environment because of the client having lost several key people in the middle of the process.  At times, I was frustrated and ready to quit working on the job, but Bill really stuck with it.  He sent in some stellar candidates and kept encouraging me that we could get it done . . . and eventually, we did.  Thanks, Bill.”

Position Title—Human Resource Manager
Fee Percentage—25%

Bill Broderick“One of our many recruiting challenges is to stay the course no matter what obstacles fall in place.  Ed’s client had a series of events (management changes, illness) that successively stalled the process, but did not  derail it.  Eventually, the client got back on track regarding their need for HR leadership, which got our candidate interviewed and hired.  So a resume submitted in October, 2011 got interviewed in January and hired in February.  Yikes!   Lesson learned: events are in control, not us, so just stand there until something positive happens!”

(Editor’s Note: This is the next in a series of guest blog posts about contract staffing, courtesy of Top Echelon Contracting, the recruiter’s back-office solution.  Similar posts will appear in future issues of The Pinnacle Newsletter Blog.)

Debbie FledderjohannMost people in recruitment expect that when the economy recovers from a recession, there will be a spike in the use of contractors.  But is contract staffing’s current growth just a knee-jerk reaction to the recession, or is it something more?

Well, a recent Washington Post article suggests that it could actually be “a fundamental change in the way Americans work,” one that both companies and workers are driving.  Companies plan to increase their use of contractors by 26% in the next two years, according to Staffing Industry Analysts.

Meanwhile, more workers are considering themselves “free agents,” jumping from project to project.  While many may have turned to contracting out of necessity when they couldn’t find traditional, full-time jobs, many now prefer it because they feel like they have more control.

The article echoes what we have been hearing from recruiters and what Top Echelon Contracting has been experiencing as a business.  Last year, we saw a 22% increase in the number of commercial contractors placed through our back-office.  We have written extensively on employers’ shift toward contractors and why workers want to be contractors in our quarterly newsletter, Contracting Corner.

Only time will tell, but it certainly does seem that the traditional workforce is changing.  If you are only taking direct-hire job orders, you may want to keep an eye on this issue and how it may affect your business.
