Usually, the race for Recruiter of the Month in Top Echelon Network isn’t even close. Trey Cameron of the Cameron Craig Group typically wins by a large margin. But not during the month of April!

That’s because while Trey made seven split placements during the month, Terry Rhodes of NewCareers racked up six splits. Terry has enjoyed a resurgence within the Network during the past year or so.

The race to dethrone Trey Cameron

Terry Rhodes of NewCareers

Terry Rhodes

Let’s start with the fact that Terry has made 165 career placements in the Network and cashed in close to $1.3 million. Terry made nine TE splits in 2017. However, he’s accelerated his production this year, making 15 placements already in 2018! (He’s currently #4 on the Network’s list of top-producing recruiters.)

We’ve already named Terry the Recruiter of the Week this year in the Network. And speaking of Recruiters of the Week, there are two more on the list below. Those two are Steve Zollner of The Sunridge Group and Vern Fuller of Knightsource, LLC.

Will the race for Recruiter of the Month be this close every month? Sadly, probably not. But one of these days, somebody will dethrone Trey Cameron for the award.

In the meantime, congratulations to everybody on the list below and everybody who made Top Echelon placements during the month of April!

Top Echelon determines the monthly and quarterly winners of its split recruiting awards based upon two criteria, which are listed below in order of importance:

1.) The number of split placements made
2.) The amount of “cash-in” dollars earned as a result of those split placements

This explains why, when multiple recruiters are tied with the same number of placements during a given month or quarter, the recruiter with the largest “cash-in” total is deemed the winner.

Vern Fuller of Knightsource, LLC has been a member of Top Echelon’s recruiting network for less than a year. In fact, Knightsource joined the Network on July 26 of 2017.

However, since that time, Vern has made seven split placements in TE. Not only that, but he’s also made those seven splits with six different trading partners. (The only recruiter with whom he’s closed two deals so far is Richard Steinman of Steinman Recruiting Associates.)

So as you might have already guessed, Vern Fuller is Recruiter of the Week in Top Echelon Network!

Vern Fuller: “hitting the ground running”

Two of Vern’s seven placements closed this week, as you can see below. One of them was with Richard, and the other was with Shari Kearney of JobXSite. Vern specializes in Operations Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Logistics.

Vern Fuller is a prime example of a recruiter who joined the Network and “hit the ground running.” We tell new members if they can make one or two TE placements in their first year, that’s a good start. Vern is off to more than a good start. He’s off to a great start.

So congratulations to Vern Fuller for being named Recruiter of the Week in Top Echelon!

And if you’d like to know how YOU can enjoy more Network success, please contact Director of Network Operations Drea Codispoti, CPC/CERS. You can do so by calling 330.455.1433, x156 or by sending an email to drea@topechelon.com.

There is a common misconception that contract workers are somehow inferior and lower level, not the “cream of the crop” or superstar candidates. However you want to say it, the belief is that candidates only take contract assignments because they were passed up for direct hire jobs.

That is definitely a myth. For many high-quality candidates, contract staffing is NOT a last resort. They are choosing contracting as a lifestyle to achieve more flexibility, variety, and growth.

Superstar candidates and contracting

In fact, there are a number of reasons why superstar candidates would choose to work on contract, including the following seven reasons:

#1—They need flexibility.

This is probably the most common reason workers choose contracting. Many people are juggling careers with childcare and other responsibilities. Contract assignments are often project-based, so companies may be willing to be more flexible with contractor work schedules and location (i.e., home).

#2—They don’t trust Corporate America.

One unexpected layoff can be enough to make anyone leery of traditional employment. When they contract, they know from the get-go that their assignments are temporary, so they are not blindsided.

#3—They want to be a “free agent.”

Many workers don’t want to be tied to one employer. They want to depend on their own skills and take control of their futures. This is especially true of Millennials.

#4—They want challenge and variety.

For many workers, especially the younger generation, simply getting a paycheck isn’t enough of a reason to get up in the morning. They want to make a difference, and they want to be challenged. Companies often use contractors to meet critical deadlines and complete projects, so it’s easy for workers to see the impact of their work . . . and then move on to the next challenge.

#5—They don’t want to relocate.

A worker may not want to uproot their family or they may not be able to sell their house. But they may be willing and able to work away from home for a short time or try a location and company on a contract-to-direct basis before accepting a direct hire offer.

#6—They want to retire (sort of).

Today’s older workers want to remain active and many can’t afford to retire. They want to be able to work when they need or want to work, not be tied to a traditional 9-to-5 job.

#7—They want to make more money.

Contractors are paid for every hour, including overtime.

So don’t pass over a resume or candidate just because they have a variety of jobs and experiences. Someone who has enhanced their skills and expertise through contract assignments could be your best candidate.

This year, 2018, is Top Echelon Network’s 30th anniversary year. What does that mean? It means we’re going to celebrate! And that includes celebrating the anniversaries of TE firms in The Pinnacle Newsletter Blog!

As you can see below, May is a rather sparse month in terms of anniversaries. (As compared to other months of the year, that is.) While that might just be an anomaly, we certainly make up for quantity with quality. That’s because we have two TE firms that are celebrating anniversaries of more than 20 years.

TE firms: longevity, loyalty, commitment

One of those TE firms is Discovery Personnel, Inc. Not only has that firm been in the Network for the past 26 years, but it has also accounted for more than 100 placements. In fact, the agency has accounted for 104 placements, if you’re keeping track at home. (So we’re not only celebrating an anniversary in this blog post, but we’re celebrating a production milestone, as well.)

Another Network agency, JobCareers, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month. JobCareers has racked up a total of 42 placements during its time in Top Echelon.

These TE firms—and their recruiters—have been with the Network for most of its 30-year journey. So we would like to congratulate them for their loyalty, their longevity, and their commitment. Discovery Personnel and JobCareers are model Top Echelon Network agencies, and we’re both pleased and proud that they’re part of our elite recruiting network.

(Editor’s note: Top Echelon recognizes firms celebrating five, 10, 15, and 20-year Network anniversaries, plus any firm celebrating an anniversary in excess of 20 years.)
