How Many TE Recruiters Work Out of Their Home?

In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, there are a lot more people working from home than a few months ago. But for agency recruiters and search consultants, working from home is the rule rather than the exception.

To prove this, we recently posed a poll question in the Members’ Area of the Top Echelon website. Coincidentally, this was the same question that we posed exactly five years ago. So that means we’ll get to see whether more Network members are working from home now . . . or not.

Let’s start with our most recent results:

Do you work out of your home or out of a brick-and-mortar office?

The choice of answers that we provided is listed below, along with the percentage of split network recruiters that selected each one:

  • I work out of my home. — 77.6%
  • I pay rent (or have a mortgage) for commercial office space. — 22.4%

And now, let’s review the poll results from five years ago and see how they compare to these more recent results:

Do you work out of your home or out of a brick-and-mortar office?

The choice of answers that we provided is listed below, along with the percentage of recruiters that selected each one:

  • I work out of my home. — 61.7%
  • I pay rent (or have a mortgage) for commercial office space. — 38.3%

Summary:

In both polls, the majority of Network members work out of their home. In fact, far more than half do so, with 61.7% in 2015 and 77.6% this year. That’s nearly the difference between six out of 10 members working from home and eight out of 10 doing so.

(It should be noted that this poll question was posted before the Coronavirus was officially classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization.)

Analysis and Conclusion:

Until recently (hello, Stock Market crash), the economy has been in recovery mode. This has especially been the case during the past five years. As a result, you would think that more Network members would be utilizing office space for their agency. However, that is not the case.

The conclusion: Network recruiters like to keep their overhead low and their profits high. And there’s nothing wrong with that, pandemic or no pandemic.
