This is it! The end draweth nigh!

The end of Regular Registration for the 2016 Top Echelon Fall Conference that is.

If it sounds like I’m being a little dramatic, that’s because I am. But I don’t think I’m overstating the fact that attending the conference could be one of the most important things you do as a member of Top Echelon Network.

That’s because the Fall Conference is where the action is. If you want to make more Network placements more quickly and more frequently, then attending the conference is the very best thing you can do.

Regular Registration will be over at the end of the business day on Friday, September 30. As you might have noticed, that’s this week.

The cost of Regular Registration is $285 per person. After Friday, the cost will increase quite dramatically to $325 per person during the Late Registration period.

Below are six additional facts about the 2016 Top Echelon Fall Conference:

1. This year’s Fall Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, and Wednesday, October 19.

2. The site of the conference is the Sheraton O’Hare Suites (formerly the Sheraton Gateway Suites).

3. Our room rate with the Sheraton O’Hare Suites is $189 per night. That rate is good for Top Echelon Network members attending the conference for the dates of Monday, October 17, through Wednesday, October 19.

4. The Sheraton O’Hare Suites is located near the Chicago O’Hare Airport. A courtesy shuttle will be available for your transportation. Also keep in mind that you do not have to stay at the Sheraton O’Hare Suites. You also have the option of staying at any hotel of your choice and traveling to the Sheraton.

5. To make hotel reservations at the Sheraton O’Hare Suites, call 1.847.699.6300. Be sure to reference the “Top Echelon conference” and its dates when you make the reservation. Please note there are a limited number of rooms available at that rate for our group, and they will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

6. The main speaker for this year’s Fall Conference is Scott Love of The Attorney Search Group. Scott, who is a respected trainer and speaker within the industry, has presented for us before at the Fall Conference.

Recruiting is one part of a being a recruiting firm owner. Granted, it’s a BIG part, but there are other components, as well.

One of those components is the business component. It’s one thing to recruit well. It’s another thing to run a business well. Just because you can do one does not necessarily mean that you can do the other.

So we wanted to find out what YOU thought of yourselves as business people. Specifically, we wanted to know how objective you could be in your self-analysis. That’s why we cooked up the poll question below:

You’re a great recruiter, but what grade would you give yourself as a business person?

Results:

The choice of answers that we provided is listed below, along with the percentage of Network recruiters that selected each one:

  • A — 20.5%
  • B — 57.8%
  • C — 19.3%
  • D — 2.4%
  • F — 0.0%
  • Is there a grade lower than F? — 0.0%

Analysis:

Over a fifth of the Network recruiters who participated in this poll (20.5%) think quite highly of themselves, selecting “A” as their answer. The most popular answer by far, though, was a grade of “B,” which garnered 57.8% of the vote.

Nearly another fifth of poll participants (19.3%) assessed themselves as average in terms of business acumen, assigning themselves a grade of “C.” In addition, 2.4% of TE recruiters were even more dour than that, choosing “D” as their answer.

Finally, nobody thought so little of themselves as business people that they chose either “F” or “Is there a grade lower than F?” So we got that going for us . . .

Conclusion:

Recruiting firm owners run a wide gamut:

  • They love recruiting and they love being business people.
  • They love recruiting and they hate being business people.
  • They love recruiting and they’re lukewarm toward the business aspect of it.

The most successful owners, of course, are those who are proficient at both recruiting and running a business. It’s true that some owners are so good at recruiting that they bill enough to make up for the fact that they’re not a very good business person.

It’s also true that a firm can not maximize its productivity and reach its full potential until the owner runs that firm in a proficient manner. That’s one of the benefits of being a Network member: being able to bounce ideas off other members and fellow firm owners. “Iron sharpens iron,” so to speak.
