Recruiters Lost THIS Many Placements Due to a Candidate

Okay, last week we found out how many placements Network recruiters lost in 2016 due to a client. So . . . it only makes sense if we found out how many they lost due to a candidate.

Once again, we discovered the answer to this burning question with one of our handy and dandy Members’ Area poll questions. The question that we asked in this particular poll was as follows:

How many times last year did you lose a placement because of a candidate?

The choice of answers that we provided is listed below, along with the percentage of Network recruiters that selected each one:

  • None — 14.0%
  • Between 1 and 3 — 53.0%
  • Between 4 and 6 — 27.0%
  • Between 7 and 9 — 2.0%
  • More than 9 times — 4.0%

The tempting of a candidate

We are currently embroiled in what is clearly a candidates’ market. Consequently, the results of this poll are not that surprising. In a candidate’s market, the frequency of the following occurrences invariably increases:

  • Competing offers
  • Counter-offers
  • No-shows (the audacity!)

When companies are jockeying for position and competing for top talent, they entice candidates will all manner of promises. The candidates, of course, fall prey to temptation. In some cases, they take whoever tempts them with the most in the way of compensation, flexibility, and/or perks. So what does that mean? It means losing placements!

Thankfully for 14% of the recruiters participating in this poll, they lost zero placements in 2016 due to a candidate. They were the lucky ones.

Now for the unlucky ones, starting with those recruiters who lost “between 1 and 3” placements. That contingent represented over half of everybody in the poll (53%). It was also the largest contingent.

The next-largest contingent (27%) consisted of those recruiters who lost “between 4 and 6” placements due to a candidate. Fortunately, only a small percentage of recruiters lost a placement “between 7 and 9” times (2%) and “more than 9 times” (4%).

When you get right down to it, there is NO good reason to lose a placement. It doesn’t matter if it’s a candidate or a client. But sometimes, it helps to know who exactly is to blame . . .
