LinkedIn Announces Job Advertising Changes
LinkedIn recently let us know about an upcoming change in their handling of jobs posted by search and staffing companies. To keep you in the loop, we’re passing along what we know:
Starting in August, LinkedIn will no longer provide free/organic visibility for certain jobs posted by third-party recruiters. Instead, LinkedIn will require third-party recruiters to pay to sponsor their jobs (via LinkedIn Recruiter and/or Job Slots subscriptions) to get visibility on LinkedIn.
Importantly, Top Echelon’s LinkedIn-related features and billing will remain unchanged: connecting your jobs to your LinkedIn account via our Limited Listings integration is still available and still free.
LinkedIn recommends that recruiters review their Third-Party Job Listing and Job Site Inclusion Guidelines for more information regarding this change.
We also encourage you to read through the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provided by LinkedIn regarding this matter, which we’ve included in this blog post . . .

Frequently Asked Questions (Per LinkedIn)
To help keep LinkedIn safe and trustworthy, jobs posted by search and staffing companies may no longer be visible on LinkedIn when they are ingested as Basic Jobs or Limited Listings from third-party sources such as ATSs and job boards.
1. What are search and staffing companies?
Search and staffing companies are companies that help other companies find and hire employees.
2. What are Basic Jobs?
Basic Jobs are jobs that are ingested from applicant tracking systems (ATSs), third-party job boards, and/or companies’ career pages. These jobs may also be referred to as Limited Listings.
For customers who have implemented Job Wrapping, any jobs not placed into a Job Slot appear as Basic Jobs on LinkedIn.
3. Why are search and staffing companies being required to promote jobs?
Helping our members stay safe and have a positive experience while they search for jobs is important to us. To help ensure jobs posted on LinkedIn are valid, high-quality, and unique, jobs from search and staffing companies may no longer be visible on LinkedIn when they are ingested as Basic Jobs or Limited Listings from third-party sources such as applicant tracking systems (ATSs) and job boards. These limits are designed to prevent abuse, improve product quality, and increase transparency while ensuring that job seekers have access to the best possible opportunities. Please note that LinkedIn reserves the right to categorize a company as search and staffing and further reserves the right to require promotion of jobs.
4. How can I promote my Basic Job as a search and staffing company?
There are a couple of options if you’re interested in promoting your jobs and collecting applicants on LinkedIn. Promoted jobs have greater visibility across LinkedIn and get access to exclusive promotion channels.
- If you’re only hiring occasionally, learn more about how to post an online job here.
- If you’re hiring consistently throughout the year, contact a talent consultant here or reach out to
your LinkedIn account team to discuss Job Slots.
5. What are the reasons that a Basic Job may not appear on LinkedIn?
There are several reasons why a Basic Job may not appear on LinkedIn:
- LinkedIn Premium Job Post: The job is already posted as a paid job by the customer on their Company Page.
- Missing or Invalid fields: Jobs will not post if mandatory fields are blank or have invalid information.
Please refer to the XML requirements for more information. - Employer Opt-Out: Employer has opted out of job ingestion from any third-party site.
- Spam Jobs: Jobs posted on LinkedIn may be selected to undergo our jobs review process and must
meet our guidelines as part of our commitment to professionalism and integrity. If jobs do not meet the guidelines, they may be marked as spam. - In some cases, we may require certain types of jobs to be promoted on LinkedIn. Jobs that require
promotion may include jobs that are reposted within a certain time period, jobs by companies with
generic names (such as “Confidential Company”), or jobs from search and staffing companies.
6. My company is not a search or staffing company but I’m unable to post Basic Jobs. What can I do to fix this?
If you believe that your Basic Jobs have been hidden in error and your company is not considered search or staffing, we encourage you to contact our customer support team through this link.
