It was another exciting week of split placements in the Top Echelon Network, with recruiters celebrating some impressive wins.

Leading the way were Christina Boudreaux of Connectly Recruiting and David Manns of Access Staffing, who joined forces to place an Estimator, earning an outstanding $38,500 split placement fee at 22%!

And the success didn’t stop there. Network members completed seven additional placements this week, including two more with fees exceeding $30,000.

These achievements showcase the power of collaboration and the incredible opportunities available when recruiters combine their expertise, resources, and connections to make more placements together.

As a friendly neighborhood reminder, here is the information that we publish with our split placements:

  • Names of the trading partners involved (with their profile photos, when available)
  • Job title
  • Overall placement fee (before TE Network’s 6% brokerage fee, of course)
  • Fee percentage

Please note that the placements listed below reflect deals finalized in TE Network for the period from October 19 through October 25, 2026.

Remember, if you don’t want information related to your split placements published in The Pinnacle, please send an email to marketing@topechelon.com to that effect.

Once again, congratulations to everybody below for the split placements they made in TE Network!

Split recruiting can be one of the most effective ways to grow your recruiting business, expand your candidate network, and make more placements without increasing your overhead. When two recruiters combine their resources, expertise, and relationships, they can create opportunities that neither might have been able to pursue independently.

However, just because two recruiters agree to work together doesn’t mean a successful split placement is guaranteed. Like any business relationship, split recruiting requires trust, communication, clearly defined expectations, and a willingness to collaborate.

Over the years, I’ve seen how valuable strong split recruiting partnerships can be, but I’ve also seen how easily those relationships can become strained when recruiters overlook the fundamentals. Sometimes the problem is poor communication, while other times it’s unrealistic expectations, a lack of follow-through, or simply approaching the partnership with the wrong mindset.

The good news is that many of these challenges are avoidable, especially when recruiters recognize the potential pitfalls before they become problems.

With that in mind, let’s look at 10 common split recruiting mistakes and what you can do to avoid them.

1. Treating Split Recruiting Like a Transaction Instead of a Relationship

One of the biggest mistakes recruiters make is focusing exclusively on the placement opportunity in front of them instead of recognizing the long-term value of the relationship.

It’s understandable to get excited when another recruiter has a candidate who might fit your open job order, or when you have a strong candidate who could be perfect for another recruiter’s client. After all, making placements is how we generate revenue.

However, the most successful split recruiting relationships aren’t built around a single transaction. They’re built on trust, mutual respect, and the understanding that working together consistently can create opportunities for years to come.

When you approach every split placement as the beginning or continuation of a professional relationship, you’re more likely to communicate effectively, honor your commitments, and invest in your partner’s success.

How to avoid this mistake: Take the time to get to know your split partners beyond the immediate job order or candidate submission. Learn about their specialties, understand how they operate, and look for opportunities to help one another even when a placement isn’t immediately on the horizon.

2. Not Doing Your Homework on Potential Split Partners

Not every recruiter is going to be the right split partner for you, and that’s perfectly fine because successful partnerships require more than simply having complementary job orders and candidates.

Before committing to a split recruiting relationship, it’s important to understand how the other recruiter conducts business, communicates with partners, and manages expectations.

For example, you might work best with someone who provides frequent updates and responds quickly to questions, while another recruiter may prefer a more independent approach. Neither style is necessarily wrong, but differences can create frustration when they’re not discussed ahead of time.

Professional reputation, ethical standards, and reliability should also factor into your decision because the actions of your split partner can affect your relationships with clients and candidates.

How to avoid this mistake: Have a conversation with potential partners before jumping into a search, ask questions about their recruiting process, and seek feedback from other recruiters who have worked with them when possible. A little due diligence can prevent significant problems later.

3. Assuming Everyone Is on the Same Page

Assumptions can create unnecessary problems in split recruiting, particularly when two recruiters begin working together without clearly defining their responsibilities.

You may assume your partner will handle all candidate communication, while your partner believes you’re responsible for coordinating interviews. You might expect regular updates, while the other recruiter plans to reach out only when something significant happens.

These misunderstandings can quickly lead to frustration, delays, and missed opportunities, even when both recruiters have the best intentions.

Before starting a split search, make sure you understand who will communicate with the client, who will manage candidate interactions, how feedback will be shared, and what each party is expected to contribute.

How to avoid this mistake: Establish clear expectations at the beginning of the relationship and confirm the details of your split fee agreement, candidate ownership, communication responsibilities, and search process before moving forward.

4. Waiting Until Something Goes Wrong to Communicate

Communication is one of the most important ingredients in a successful split placement, yet it’s also one of the areas where partnerships can break down.

When recruiters communicate only when there’s a problem, their partners may be left wondering whether candidates are still interested, interviews have been scheduled, or the client is moving forward.

Even when nothing significant has changed, a brief update can help maintain confidence and demonstrate that you’re actively managing the opportunity.

This doesn’t mean you need to contact your partner constantly or provide unnecessary details about every interaction. It simply means keeping the lines of communication open and making sure important information is shared in a timely manner.

How to avoid this mistake: Agree on a reasonable communication schedule and make it a priority to provide updates throughout the search. If a candidate withdraws, a client delays feedback, or circumstances change, communicate that information as soon as possible rather than waiting for your partner to ask.

5. Overselling Your Candidates

We all want to present our candidates in the best possible light, especially when we’re excited about a potential placement. However, there’s a difference between highlighting someone’s strengths and overstating their qualifications or interest in an opportunity.

When you tell a split partner that a candidate is an outstanding fit, they’re relying on your assessment to make decisions and communicate with their client.

If the candidate doesn’t possess the required experience, isn’t genuinely interested in the position, or has concerns that weren’t disclosed, your partner may find themselves in an uncomfortable situation.

More importantly, those situations can damage the credibility you’ve worked hard to establish.

How to avoid this mistake: Be transparent about your candidates’ qualifications, expectations, availability, and potential concerns. Providing an accurate assessment allows your split partner to make informed decisions and demonstrates that your recommendations can be trusted.

6. Forgetting About the Candidate Experience

It’s easy to become focused on the client relationship and the logistics of working with another recruiter, but we can’t forget that there’s a candidate navigating the hiring process as well.

In a split placement, candidates may interact with more than one recruiter, which can create confusion if communication isn’t coordinated properly.

For example, a candidate might receive conflicting information about interview schedules, compensation expectations, or next steps if both recruiters aren’t working from the same information.

A confusing or disorganized experience can affect the candidate’s confidence in the opportunity and potentially jeopardize the placement.

How to avoid this mistake: Make sure both recruiters understand who is responsible for communicating with the candidate and how information will be shared. Keeping the candidate informed, prepared, and engaged should always be a shared priority.

7. Trying to Control Every Aspect of the Search

One of the primary benefits of split recruiting is the opportunity to leverage another recruiter’s expertise, relationships, and resources. However, that advantage can disappear when one partner insists on controlling every aspect of the process.

It’s natural to want to protect your client relationships and maintain high standards, particularly when you’ve spent years developing those connections. However, effective collaboration requires a certain level of trust.

If your partner specializes in a particular industry or has extensive experience sourcing hard-to-find candidates, give them the opportunity to contribute that expertise.

The goal isn’t to give up accountability or compromise your standards, but rather to recognize that both recruiters bring something valuable to the partnership.

How to avoid this mistake: Establish responsibilities early, communicate your expectations, and allow each partner to focus on the areas where they can provide the greatest value. Strong split recruiting partnerships work best when both parties feel respected and trusted.

8. Only Reaching Out When You Need Something

Another common mistake is contacting split partners only when you have an urgent job order to fill or a candidate you’re trying to place.

While there’s nothing wrong with reaching out when you have an opportunity, relationships tend to be stronger when communication continues between active searches.

Staying connected helps you learn more about your partners’ specialties, understand the markets they’re working in, and identify opportunities that might not be immediately obvious.

It also keeps you top of mind when your partners encounter candidates or job orders that align with your expertise.

How to avoid this mistake: Make relationship-building part of your regular business development activities. Check in with your partners periodically, share relevant market information, and look for ways to provide value even when there’s no immediate placement opportunity.

9. Underestimating the Importance of Your Reputation

Your professional reputation is one of your most valuable assets as a recruiter, and that becomes especially important when you’re working within a split recruiting network.

Other recruiters want to collaborate with professionals they can depend on, which means your responsiveness, honesty, follow-through, and overall professionalism can influence the opportunities that come your way.

Failing to return messages, missing commitments, or mishandling candidate and client relationships may seem like isolated issues, but those experiences can affect whether someone wants to work with you again.

On the other hand, recruiters who consistently communicate well, honor agreements, and treat their partners with respect are more likely to build lasting relationships.

How to avoid this mistake: Treat every split recruiting interaction as an opportunity to reinforce your professional reputation. Follow through on your commitments, communicate honestly, and remember that the way you handle an unsuccessful search can be just as important as how you handle a successful placement.

10. Thinking Split Recruiting Is an Easy Shortcut to More Placements

Split recruiting can absolutely help you increase your placement opportunities, but it isn’t a substitute for strong recruiting fundamentals.

You still need to qualify candidates, understand client requirements, manage expectations, communicate effectively, and follow through throughout the hiring process.

Working with another recruiter doesn’t eliminate those responsibilities, and assuming that your partner will handle everything can quickly lead to disappointment.

The recruiters who benefit most from split placements are often those who already have strong recruiting practices and recognize how collaboration can make those practices even more effective.

How to avoid this mistake: Approach split recruiting with the same discipline and professionalism you bring to your own searches. Invest in your relationships, contribute meaningful value, and remember that successful collaboration requires effort from both parties.

Building Stronger Split Recruiting Relationships

At the end of the day, successful split recruiting is about much more than matching a candidate with an open position. It’s about building professional relationships that create value for everyone involved, including recruiters, clients, and candidates.

When you communicate consistently, establish clear expectations, protect your reputation, and approach partnerships with a long-term mindset, you’re laying the groundwork for future success.

Of course, not every split recruiting opportunity will result in a placement, and even strong partnerships will occasionally encounter challenges. What matters is how you handle those situations and whether your actions strengthen or weaken the relationship.

One of the greatest advantages of participating in a recruiting network like Top Echelon Network is the opportunity to develop relationships with other experienced recruiting professionals who bring different specialties, connections, and perspectives to the table.

The more effort you put into building and maintaining those relationships, the more opportunities you create to collaborate on searches, serve your clients, and ultimately make more placements.

Remember, the goal isn’t simply to complete one successful split placement. It’s to build the kind of trusted recruiting partnerships that can contribute to your success for years to come.

What if you could update outdated contact information in your recruiting database, uncover missing email addresses and phone numbers, and reconnect with candidates you’ve lost touch with over the years, all without leaving your recruiting software?

With the Data Enrichment Add-On for TE Recruit, you can do just that, and it only takes 15 minutes to see how it works!

Top Echelon is inviting TE Recruit users to schedule a quick, personalized demonstration of Data Enrichment to discover how this powerful feature can help them get more value from their existing recruiting database, reduce manual research, and spend more time doing what matters most: connecting with candidates and making placements.

What’s that? You’d like me to tell you more? Of course!

Is Your Contact Information Up to Date?

Every recruiter knows that a database is only as useful as the information it contains. Over time, however, even the most carefully maintained recruiting database can accumulate outdated email addresses, disconnected phone numbers, incomplete employment histories, and records that haven’t been updated in years.

Candidates change jobs, move to different companies, and update their contact information, often without notifying the recruiters who have them in their databases. As a result, you may have thousands of potentially valuable candidates and contacts in TE Recruit who are difficult to reach simply because their information is no longer accurate.

Think about the candidates you’ve worked with over the past several years who might be perfect for one of your current searches. You already have their records in your database, but what happens when the email address bounces or the phone number no longer works?

Traditionally, you’d have to spend time searching LinkedIn, reviewing company websites, conducting Google searches, or using third-party tools to track down updated information. Multiply that effort across dozens or hundreds of records, and you’re looking at a significant amount of time that could be spent recruiting.

Data Enrichment gives you a way to address those challenges directly within TE Recruit, helping you update existing contact information and uncover additional professional details without the usual manual research.

Discover What Data Enrichment Can Do in Just 15 Minutes

You don’t need to set aside an entire afternoon to learn how Data Enrichment can benefit your recruiting business. In fact, a short, 15-minute demonstration by our very own Collin Bennett is all it takes to see how the feature works and explore how it can fit into your daily recruiting activities.

During the demonstration, you can see how Data Enrichment allows you to request additional information for People records already in TE Recruit, including potentially updated email addresses, phone numbers, employment histories, educational backgrounds, social media profiles, and other professional details.

You’ll also see how the feature works within the familiar TE Recruit interface, allowing you to enrich records from People Datasheets, lists, and the Browser Extension without constantly switching between different websites and research tools.

Rather than spending time tracking down missing information manually, you can see how enrichment credits make it possible to request additional details and potentially turn incomplete records into more useful recruiting resources.

And because the demonstration takes just 15 minutes, you can explore the feature without taking a significant amount of time away from your busy recruiting schedule.

Give Your Existing Candidate Records New Life

One of the most exciting aspects of Data Enrichment is its potential to help recruiters rediscover candidates who are already sitting in their databases.

Consider a candidate you entered into TE Recruit five years ago who wasn’t quite right for the position you were working on at the time. Since then, that individual may have changed employers, gained valuable experience, earned a promotion, or developed skills that make them an excellent fit for one of your current searches.

Unfortunately, if the person’s contact information hasn’t been updated, you might never have the opportunity to reconnect.

With Data Enrichment, you can request additional professional information that may help you identify where that candidate works today and how to contact them. Instead of overlooking a potentially valuable record because its information is incomplete, you have another way to determine whether the individual represents a new placement opportunity.

This is especially valuable when combined with TE Recruit’s AI People Search, which can help you rediscover candidates already in your database who may match current search requirements.

The candidates you need might already be in TE Recruit. Data Enrichment can help you get the information you need to reach them.

Less Research, More Recruiting

Recruiters already have enough competing demands on their time without spending hours tracking down email addresses, verifying phone numbers, and piecing together employment histories.

While researching one candidate might take only a few minutes, those minutes add up quickly when you’re managing multiple searches, communicating with clients, and evaluating dozens of potential candidates.

Data Enrichment is designed to make that process more efficient by providing access to additional professional information from within the recruiting software you’re already using.

Whether you’re updating older records, qualifying newly discovered candidates, or looking for better ways to contact people in your database, Data Enrichment can help reduce the time spent searching for information and allow you to move more quickly toward meaningful conversations.

The result is a recruiting workflow that places greater emphasis on relationship-building, candidate engagement, and placement activity rather than repetitive administrative research.

An Affordable Way to Get More From TE Recruit

The Data Enrichment Add-On is available for just $29 per month per agency, which includes 100 enrichment credits each month. Additional credits are available for $0.50 each when an agency needs more than its monthly allowance.

For a relatively modest monthly investment, recruiting agencies gain access to a tool designed to help them improve the usefulness of their existing database and uncover additional information about candidates and contacts.

Of course, the amount and type of information available will vary by record, and enrichment does not guarantee that every missing or outdated detail can be found. However, having the ability to request additional information directly within TE Recruit can make a meaningful difference in how efficiently recruiters research and reconnect with people.

You can learn more about the feature, its capabilities, and how enrichment credits work in the Data Enrichment Overview.

Your Next Placement Could Be Hiding in Your Database

Recruiting agencies invest considerable time and effort into building their candidate databases, yet the value of those records can diminish when contact information becomes outdated or incomplete.

Data Enrichment offers TE Recruit users an opportunity to get more out of the information they’ve already collected by making it easier to request updated contact details and additional professional information.

Instead of automatically turning to external research tools whenever you encounter an incomplete record, you can explore what information may be available directly through TE Recruit.

And the best part is that you can see the power of Data Enrichment in just 15 minutes!

Schedule Your 15-Minute Data Enrichment Demo Today!

If you’re a TE Recruit user who wants to update the contact information in your database, reconnect with candidates, and spend less time researching and more time recruiting, we encourage you to schedule a short demonstration of the Data Enrichment feature.

In just 15 minutes, you can see how Data Enrichment works, learn how to request additional information for your existing People records, and discover how the feature could help you turn more of your database into recruiting opportunities.

Don’t let outdated email addresses, missing phone numbers, or incomplete candidate records stand between you and your next placement.
